Ron Affif was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1965. From an early age, young Ron was drawn to his father’s
jazz record collection, a treasure trove of classics whose sweet sounds gave Ron the urge to pick up his
brother’s guitar and make music.
At age 12, Ron Affif received his first guitar lesson from his uncle Ron Anthony, a guitarist who played
with such luminaries of the day as Frank Sinatra and George Shearing. When he turned 18, rather than pursuing
the music scholarship offered to him by Duquesne University, Ron moved to Los Angeles to be near his uncle,
who had offered to let Ron sub for him at gigs he couldn't make.
Ron Affif made his first recording in 1987, as part of a quartet while he was still living in Los Angeles.
He moved to New York two years later, drawn by its ever-active jazz scene and its high concentration of
ambitious, quality musicians. Since then, Affif has recorded several albums as a bandleader and a soloist.
