Chuck Carter was born April 24, 1934 in Chicago Ill. At an early age (teens) he fell in love with Jazz after listening to Gene Ammons, Sonny Stitt, Red Holloway, Paul Bascome, and others.
In his early twenties, while on his way to work, he spotted a bass violin in a downtown store window and decided he wanted to play that instrument. He purchased it and taught himself to play. A few months later, he was playing in his first band. He formed his own group, The Jazz Dynamic's Quintet, and played the chicago scene for ten years during the 1960's. He has played with many - Joe Diorio, King Kolax, Walter Perkins, Sonny Phillips, Harold Maybern, Eddie Harris, Julian Priester and Charles Davis.
He and his wife, Joyce, moved to Las Vegas in March 2003 after retiring from their chicago professionals. Chuck decided he would like to give back to the loving Jazz community that supports this fine KUNV FM radio station and hopes to help educate our youth about the Jazz experience.
