Axaya moved to Las Vegas in the mid 90's. Initially, he started volunteering at KUNV as an alternate for KT in CQDX. In 1996, he had an opportunity to host his own program, Mezcla. The original Mezcla program aired from 1996 to 2001 and it featured a mix of world music with an emphasis on non-mainstream Latin music.
When you tune in to the new Mezcla expect to hear experimental and global sounds, and a dash of spoken word. It is a capirotada, a bread pudding, of music that crosses genres and borders.
Axaya devotes part of his time to public education.
